I saw an article this week on Eight things network admins need to do before going on vacation that was pretty good. After thinking about it, I think the DBA list would be pretty similar:
- Double-check your database monitoring, be they shell scripts, grid control, 3rd-party software, and TEST their ability to send alerts.
- Review storage projections -- nothing like hitting a disk space boundary on vacation.
- Get your patch management ducks in a row. (direct copy from the article)
- Review the decision-escalation tree. (direct copy from the article)
- Review procedures documentation -- you do have documented procedures, right?
- List ongoing projects (direct copy from the article)
- Pack your chargers with your suntan oil (direct copy from the article). Though to be honest, leaving that charger home is pretty darn tempting....
What am I forgetting?
